We help build services people trust

More and more of the world is connecting to the internet. The things we own, the places we live, the organisations we work for: they all generate and share data about us. We don't have much control over that at all.

It doesn't have to be that way.

At IF, we want to make digital services that empower people. We want to develop consent models that mean something. We want to see digital rights become a mainstream issue.

So that's what we're doing.

IF is a design studio.

We're an agile team of designers and developers, based in London. Every project involves "thinking by making" – building prototypes to understand problems and approaches.

We work as a design consultancy, collaborating with clients to build better products. And we have a not-for-profit research arm, taking on wider briefs and publishing in the open.

Building services that empower people

Products should respond to what people need, respect their privacy and be accountable. We've worked with companies like Co-op and CHOICE to show what that looks like.

Developing better consent models

Consent should be as important to people who design services as accessibility. Our design patterns catalogue and meetup help teams put that into practice.

Making digital rights a mainstream issue

People's rights are changed by the technologies installed where they work and live. We think that should be clearer. Our research into new digital rights and consumer advocacy shows how.
